This form has been prepared to provide you with all the information necessary for you to decide whether you would like to proceed with integral somatic therapy with me.

Sometimes clients are not aware of how somatic therapy is different from other personal development they might have done, so I find that writing it all down before we start can prevent misunderstandings and also ensure a smoother process.

Please take your time to read the following information in its entirety and fill in your information on page 5 and 6 and bring it with you to our first session.

Some general information about our therapy together

Just like many other types of learning or training whether in the gym or for musicians or athletes, best outcomes are achieved when there is a strong commitment to attend on a consistent and regular basis.

What it is

Effective somatic therapy requires a long-term and consistent commitment. Somatic Therapy can be slow process compared to other therapies you may have had. The body takes more time to heal than the mind and because of this, clients need to practice patience. By the time you come to my office you have probably been struggling for some time and patience is the last thing you have. Even so, patience is what brings results. “The slower we go, the faster results will come”.

If you know you have had a very difficult time as a child, or you have had traumas, and other overwhelming experiences, whether they are medical, relational, or if they include being abused or neglected, your body needs more time to heal.

The more overwhelm your nervous system has experienced and the longer that has gone on, the slower we must go, so you don’t get re-traumatised in your healing work.

Somatic (Body Oriented) therapy can be slower than mind oriented, and/or traditional “talk” therapy. “BIG change” may not happen overnight but you will start noticing “some difference” or “little shift” in your nervous system. Your body will starts to regulate itself on its own without my hands on or hand off support.

I will always explain what our options are and then you choose what you would like to do in the session.


Somatic Therapy is slower than mental and emotional based therapies, and is always done with your consent.

Sometimes we will work with “imaginal touch” – this is where you just ‘imagine’ my hand is supporting: the back of your heart, your neck, your shoulder, your kidney, your feet.

This is great for starting out with touch therapy, when touch feels a little scary, this is so you can get the benefit by just imagining my touch, until later, when you feel you would like to have some actual touch.


For many clients this is a starting point which feels doable and not too scary at first, and makes the healing capacity of supportive touch possible. Sometimes, [ALWAYS with your consent], I will actually use my hand to support your heart, your neck, your shoulder, your kidney.


Sometimes, [ALWAYS with your consent], we will work with you sitting in a chair opposite me in my chair.

Sometimes [ALWAYS with your consent], you will lie down on the massage table ALWAYS FULLY CLOTHED with your head on a pillow and with a lovely soft blanket over you if you are feeling like you need some more warmth, or without a blanket if you already feel warm enough – always whatever you choose to have – and I will sit beside you, or behind you, or at your feet, while I support your head, neck, under your heart, your kidney, your feet.

Holidays and Breaks

I will take holidays and also be gone for continuing education training, I will inform you of those dates as far in advance as I can so you can be informed.
